the real bruce lee has clips from 4 of bruce's childhood movies, then an hour of shovelware. i've been looking for these for years. they are pretty good, for low budget 1950s hong kong movies. the clips start one minute in after some hokey narration. bruce is cute, funny, smiles, and sings. this taste makes me want to find the whole movies. i suspect they could be edited into something watchable.

some outfit called centurylink.com is advertising on dozens of the sites i go to.
but they don't sell their product (internet service at teaser prices but lots of fine print) in my area, or my mom's area. i'm actually in the market for the product they purport to be selling, if the price is right, but they are spending big bucks to advertise to people who live outside their service area. doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

The smart card contains unique personal identifiers and allows for multiple levels of authentication. The Russian government is pushing for local government agencies, transportation providers, banks and retail operators to adopt the government-issued ID to streamline their operations."

CNN: A 10-year-old Canadian girl will head back to school this month with a good case for some extra credit in science: She became the youngest person to discover a supernova during the holiday break.
Kathryn Aurora Gray of Fredericton, New Brunswick, spotted the exploding star, dubbed supernova 2010lt, on Monday from an image taken on New Year’s Eve by a telescope belonging to amateur astronomer David Lane in Stillwater Lake, Nova Scotia. The exploding star is in the galaxy UGC 3378 in the constellation of Camelopardalis.
The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) says Kathryn is the youngest person ever to discover a supernova.
"I was very excited to find one. Especially this quick," Kathryn said of her discovery, according to a report in the Vancouver Sun
Kathryn began her search for a supernova after she learned last year that a 14-year-old has discovered one of the exploding stars, her father, amateur astronomer Paul Gray, told the Toronto Star.
He shares credit for the find – his seventh – with Lane – his fourth, according to the RASC. The find was verified by amateur astronomers in Illinois and Arizona, the society said in a press release.
Supernovas are massive explosions that signal the death of stars many times the size of our sun, according to the RASC. Astronomers look for them by repeatedly scanning images of distant galaxies like UGC 3378, which is 240 million light years from Earth. That means the star explosion seen by the 10-year-old happened 240 million years ago.
Paul Gray told the Toronto Star his daughter found the supernova while checking the fourth of 52 images Lane had emailed to him.
“Kathryn pointed to the screen and said: ‘Is this one?’ I said yup, that looks pretty good,” Paul Gray told the Star. submitted story to slashdot

Most people think of Japan as a compact collection of large islands, but a map of the country shows otherwise. Japan stretches over 1,500 miles and includes more than 5,000 islands. natgeo.

grant's memoirs http://www.bartleby.com/1011/ published by mark twain. something maybe i'll read this year.
stuff i've read lately includes the latest grisham, the confession. preachy but a pageturner that i read 420 pages of on christmas day. a couple of wodehouses, "something fishy" and something house or something manor. but mostly i've been reading the vorkosigan saga, free online.
Cryoburn
Cordelia's Honor
Young Miles
Miles, Mystery Mayhem
Miles Errant
Miles, Mutants & Microbes
Miles in Love
The Vorkosigan Companion.
there's one or two in there that i skipped. most of these are two or three novels in one package, so about a dozen all together, so maybe i got in 20 books this year. today is january 2 2011 so i'll start a new list, and shoot for reading at least 12 books this year. other than that i mostly read 4chan and a few blogs and comics.
