day whichever: trump nominated Gorsuch. Seems acceptable.

day whichever this is of trump. sunday 1/29.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/trump-wants-to-enlist-local-police-in-immigration-crackdown/2017/01/29/880e538e-e631-11e6-903d-9b11ed7d8d2a_story.html?utm_term=.65d4fcde683d
Trump plans to invite local cops to participate in enforcing immigration policies. Makes sense to me.
I personally favor open borders, but if what he wants to do is get rid of many illegal aliens that's how to do it. I dont use the term undocumented - I'm undocumented myself at the moment. I misplaced by ID after a gig interview and have no easy  way to replace it.

the aclu has obtained a temporary stay of trump's deportations of certain middle easterners, from a federal judge in new york. i don't know my history too well, but this seems very early in an administration for an executive-judicial showdown.

In the first week of the 45th presidency, the following things happened:
- The first speech by the new president described “American carnage” and promised to put “America first”, using a slogan popularized by Nazi sympathizers in the 1930s

word for the day: Ria.
A ria is a coastal inlet formed by the partial submergence of an unglaciated river valley. It is a drowned river valley that remains open to the sea. Typically, rias have a dendritic, treelike outline although they can be straight and without significant branches. This pattern is inherited from the dendritic drainage pattern of the flooded river valley. The chesapeake is the ria of the suspquehanna. it's not every day i learn a 3 letter word.

Yesterday I walked into the bank and realized I didnt have my driver's license. I had it the day before.
Maybe somehow I left it at my mom's.

If it doesn't turn up, I'll be back in the hell of you can't get an ID without an ID. I should have made some backup plans while I still had it.

I will update this saga over time. Maybe it will turn up, maybe I have enough backup documents to replace it, but the for the moment I'm undocumented. I have about $150 in cash, and I'm worried about not being able to access the cash I have in the bank.

I've been though this before, including most of 2005, which is what caused me to become active fighting voter ID. Last May, I was prevented from voting for or against Trump in the primary because I won't show ID. I'm fairly confident that was an actionable violation of my civil rights, although I'm not sure I'll be able to find counsel to take the case.

i checked my records and i don't even have a photocopy of my driver's license.

meant topost this to my elecction law blog.

Race for Psyche: when NASA gets to this large metal asteroid in 2030, will elon musk already be there? Estimates of the street value of the iron alone dwarf today's economy. It's expected to have nickel and gold was well.

Obama frees Chelsea Handler, or somebody.

In a flood of clemency orders before he leaves office, President Obama commuted the sentences of 209 people and pardoned 64 others on Tuesday.

a critique of libertarian judical engagement. i'm a fan of libertarian judicial engagement,
so it's useful to take a look at opposing views.

https://store.xkcd.com/products/doughnut-mug

I didn't understand this xkcd mug. It turns out it references an old joke, that a mathematician can't tell the difference between a donut and a coffee mug. And this in turn references the 2016 nobel prize in physics, for the idea that the math of topology is going to useful for physicist. They aren't quite sure how yet, but it was enough to win the prize. So the new joke is that a physicist can't tell the difference between a coffee mug and a donut.
