At crescat [http://crescatsententia.net/] Quaker has some thoughts on the 50's era New Yorker and gender politics. This post is a placeholder to which I may add comments later. I'm a fan of the Thurber/Harold Ross era of the New Yorker. If a lot of the cartoons were about marital discord, one reason is that they did it well, and sold magazines and got positive feedback, so they kept doing it.
