somebody sent me a picture of my great grandmother, emily northrup, second from left top, and her father albert coe northrup, seated left. circa 1875-1880.

emily's son, clare augustus stewart sr, is who his son, my father, is named after. clare sr lost his farm and his bank in the flood of 35 but later struck oil, leaving a college fund and trust fund for his 16 grandchildren. emily married bernard stewart, who is from a line of stewarts who had to leave scotland after bonnie prince charlie lost his battle. charlie was a cousin because we are descended from one of the stewart kings.

about 20 years ago, somebody asked my father if his northrups were related to my mother's northropps.
it turned out that they were, and he got hooked on researching the family tree back to the pilgrims. with ancestry.com, i was able to fill in some of the gaps.
