McGill political theorist Jacob Levy’s Rationalism, Pluralism, and Freedom is a great overview of a longstanding issue in libertarian thought (and liberal thought more generally): the appropriate role of “intermediate groups” such as religious organizations, voluntary associations, and organized ethnic groups.
